General Dentistry

Essential dentistry for you and your family in Portsmouth including routine dental check-ups and treatments such as dental fillings and extractions. We also offer emergency appointments, please call the practice if you feel you may have a dental emergency.

Dental check-ups

Regular dental check-ups are very important for maintaining oral health. We typically recommended you visit us every six months so our dentists and hygienists can assess the condition of your teeth, gums and overall oral hygiene.

During check-ups, we look for early signs of dental problems such as cavities, gum disease, or oral cancer, which are more manageable when caught early. Beyond addressing any existing issues, your check-up also provides an opportunity to receive personalised advice on oral hygiene practices and preventive measures to help maintain a healthy smile.

Fillings

Dental fillings are used to repair teeth damaged by decay or trauma. They are typically made from materials like amalgam, composite resin, gold, or porcelain and work effectively to restore the tooth's structure, strength, and function.

If you need a filling, your dentist will remove decayed material, clean the area and then fill the cavity with the chosen material, restoring the tooth's shape and preventing further decay. Modern fillings are designed to match the natural colour of your own teeth and in keeping with your smile. While amalgam fillings are durable and cost-effective, composite resin fillings offer a more natural appearance and our preferred choice. Please ask your dentist about the options.

Extractions

Tooth extractions are routine dental procedures which sometimes become necessary due to various reasons, including severe decay, infection, crowding, or trauma.

Your dentist will carefully assess your needs before proceeding and use powerful local anaesthesia to numb the area, making the process virtually painless. Using special tools, your dentist gently loosens the tooth from its socket and removes it. Post-extraction care involves controlling bleeding, applying gauze, and advising on pain management.

Although we use tooth extraction as a last resort, it may be a necessary step towards other dental treatments.

Emergencies

When a dental emergency happens you need swift attention to alleviate pain and prevent further complications. Emergency appointments here at Farlington Dental prioritise urgent cases like severe toothaches, knocked-out teeth, or injuries causing oral trauma. We strive to get you booked in quickly for rapid pain relief and treatment.
